In this post, 5 Reasons to Consider LASIK for Better Eyesight, we will discuss the reasons why you should consider LASIK surgery to solve your eyesight frustrations. How many times have you lost or broken your glasses, or not had them nearby when you needed them? Or suffered from sun glare and dry eyes because of your contact lenses? When people talk about why they decided to have LASIK, most often it comes back to frustration with having to deal with removable eyewear.
In contrast, people who decide against LASIK cite issues of safety and cost, implying that it’s dangerous and expensive. But when you look at the numbers, you can see that those reasons are based more on fears than facts. In fact, those “negatives” are two of the reasons why you might want to consider getting LASIK surgery.
Reason 1: LASIK is Cost Effectiveness
Quality LASIK surgeons say that the average cost for a person to correct their vision in both eyes is around $5,000. Obviously that’s not a small amount of money, but it’s far less than the lifetime costs someone in their 20s – or even 40s – will pay for contact lenses or glasses and all of the expenses related to maintenance. iLASIK even has a cost calculator on their site so that you can estimate the real cost of your eyewear, which can be upwards of $10,000 or even $20,000. Even better, many LASIK surgeons offer monthly payment plans if the full cost is too much all at once.
Reason 2: LASIK is Safe
According to the most comprehensive study ever done on LASIK that reviewed evidence from almost 1,600 articles over 20 years, 95.4% of patients said they were “satisfied or very satisfied” with their vision after the procedure. What’s more, less than one percent of patients have any complications at all.
If you’re really worried about it, you should know that the type of surgery and the way that the tools are used matters. According to a number of studies, all-laser procedures don’t have as many complications with the eye flap as those where a blade is used to cut open the flap. Moreover, those same studies indicate that this type of surgery gives you a better chance of achieving greater visual acuity.
Reason 3: LASIK Provides Better Vision than with Contact Lenses or Glasses
LASIK surgery doesn’t just mean that you’ll be able to see without contact lenses or glasses. After the procedure, many people find that they have 20/20 vision – or even better! In fact, Hive Health Media reports that some people can see better than they could with their eyewear, day or night.
Reason 4: There’s Practically No Recovery Time
Surgeons say that the average time to use LASIK’s cool lasers to reshapes your corneas is about 15 minutes – for both eyes! Even allowing time for your surgeon to examine your corneal flaps afterward, the entire process only lasts about an hour. You’ll still need a ride home, but you will be able to drive by the next day, and go back to work within two days.
Reason 5: LASIK Surgery Won’t Cause Any Pain
It seems crazy that a laser reshaping your eyes is a painless procedure, but it’s true. The way it works is the doctor will use eye drops to numb your eyes so that all you feel is a tiny bit of pressure while the laser does its job. Any post-op irritation should disappear with a night of sleep and artificial tears.
